The colon is the part of the GI tract which absorbs the nutrients in the food ingested like vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and water. The colon comprises 6 ft of the large intestine and the remaining 6 ft comprises of the rectum where water and soluble nutrients are absorbed and changing the fluid-like undigested material into solid excreta. Cancer that is located in the tissues of the Colon and rectum is known as colorectal cancer. Many risk factors can increase the chances of having colorectal cancer. Most Colon cancers originate in the cells that secrete mucous or fluids. Age and health factors can increase the risk of developing colorectal cancer. A family history of cancer, personal history of cancer in other organs, a history of polyps in the colon and H.pylori can increase the risk of getting colorectal cancer.
The modern lifestyle with its tensions and competitions is
taking a terrible toll on the health of individuals. Hectic schedules mean less
time for cooking and more consumption of ready-made and junk food. Most junk

effects sometimes fatal. Therefore there is a need for natural and herbal
alternatives. Cassia siamea has been evaluated for its potent antioxidant
activity. Components separated from the extracts included many polyphenols
which exhibited very potent anti-oxidant activity. The evaluation of the
results showed the C. siamea flower extracts exhibited very potent anti-oxidant
action and helped to prevent cell damage due to free radicals. It also
prevented oxidative damage to the liver. More research is needed to establish
safe use in humans.
